CSS for Web Designing

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) help a lot in the field of Web design. They help the developers to design the layout and sort out multiple web pages at a time. With the introduction of CSS, web designing, editing and applying style have become easy with just a few clicks. To be more technical, CSS is a coding technique which allows designers to define how paragraph, alignments and headings should appear on the web page.

Cascading Style Sheets is a W3C standard programming language that helps in designing and presenting the webpage. Irrespective of the web site content, the styles can be applied to the site with the help of CSS. The styling language has command over the display features of the website like font style, colour, size, tables and alignment and so on.

Do all browsers support CSS? This will be the very next query on your minds. Yes, all leading browsers do support it. As a designer, it is a must to test the web site designed with CSS for the compatibility with different browsers. But there are certain commands which may or may not be supported by certain browsers. The CSS application comes handy when the problem of satisfying visitors from PDAs (other hand held devices) and for physically challenged visitors.

In reality, it is impossible for designers to create different interfaces for different modes of web access. The very positive aspect of CSS is that it need not be repeated throughout the web pages of the site. Instead, it can be defined in the header section of the HTML and XML code. For instance, if all the pages in a site have to be formatted as centre aligned, 30 points and blue coloured header with 10 points left aligned and black colour text, it would be a very tedious work to edit all the pages, one at a time.

With the introduction of CSS, these formatting options can be set and saved as separate files in the server. In turn, neat, readable and clutter-free HTML codes can be written. So, while editing the web pages, all a web master or a web designer has to do is to make the required changes in a single file and it’s all done for the whole website.

Is that all that could be done with CSS? No, two more valid statements can be made in favour of CSS. Though CSS helps in designing and editing huge volume of web pages of a site, it actually occupies very limited space while, at the same time, it helps website load faster with less bandwidth. Along with this, CSS helps positioning of content and other elements of HTML document using absolute positioning technique, which helps in displaying main content for search engine spiders to increase website search results.

We, at XEL Web Design are aware of the above features and advantages of implementing Cascading Style Sheets while designing and developing websites. We also give importance to the fact and help in developing search engine friendly websites.
