Important Design Considerations

This article discusses the general design considerations which are good to be considered and followed. Though these are minor points, yet they are found to have great value and to have great effect on the finished websites. Again, the points could be applied for better results and the application would again depend on the target audience and the environment where it is proposed to be used. Like, for instance, a web page can be viewed and used by viewers in two ways. They can either use the web page as their direct source of information and read it as such or might take print outs of the same pages. As the trait of a good website is to maintain consistency even when it is printed, the website should be designed and developed in a standard form which would not change even if it is printed.

Every page should contain all the basic details about the website like title, author’s name, copyright information, a link to the home page and so on. These are minor details, but when the web pages are disintegrated they would be very useful for identifying the source. The style applied on to the web pages should be moderate and have a natural consequence as, in most cases, the printed hard copy of high graphical websites are shabby. The colours used should be soothing to the eyes, both in the case of websites and printed pages. It is considered better to use fade natural colours for background. Dark background colours have proved to strain the eyes of the viewer and reduce the time he / she spends viewing the site.

Essential other details which are considered by the business owner as important should be placed positively in the first four inches of the web page. This is something important to be considered and followed as the first four inches occupy most of the space in a normal web screen and would readily be visible to the viewers of the website. Bullets, icons and other visually appealing add-ons to websites are always welcome but only when they are used sparingly. Font type, font size, sizes and format of the images used, their corresponding colours, are likewise a few other minor specifications which one needs to pay attention to while designing a website.

The above discussed are some of the essential points which we at Web Design UK have experienced and applied ourselves in making a website visually appealing both on the computer screens and as hard copies. The above listed are just a few, there are many such traits which constitute the development of a perfect and complete website.
