Role of JavaScript in a Website

JavaScript, an object scripting language is used in web pages along with mark up language HTML. But JavaScript does not incorporate or abide by any HTML tags or rules. It is similar to stand-alone programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. However, JavaScript developed by Netscape Corporation is not Java as it is not a stand-alone language. It requires a medium (web page) to be displayed. JavaScript is dependent on the computer in which the web pages are being displayed.

After reading the introduction, a few queries are sure to arise. Read further to get the answer to the queries lingering in your mind. JavaScript is a website scripting language which displays ‘some output’ within the webpage on processing the code inbuilt within any mark up language with the help of JavaScript Interpreter. ‘Some output’ can be defined as the interactive and dynamic display of content.

HTML can display only static web pages and life to the web pages is given by JavaScript. Special effects and small graphical changes can create dynamism in the website. Among many scripting languages available, JavaScript stands unique as it brings out all the special functionalities in the client’s browser instead of the site’s server.

The role of JavaScript can never be denied in a website if it is to be dynamic as JavaScript can act as both object oriented language and procedural language. JavaScript can make a website more interactive and it can also help in processing any information received from the website’s visitors.  User-friendliness of JavaScript helps easy navigation of the website and helps designers to guide the visitors with additional information and guide them with walkthroughs.

Other than site navigation and exploration, visual effects can be achieved with JavaScript. For instance, for an interior design website all that it creates is an impression in the minds of the visitors of the images or photographs of any design pattern. JavaScript can be used effectively to create special effects like rollover for images (On moving the image by move over, another image can be displayed).

Similarly, many events like detecting a key stroke from the user, all mouse events, while loading the image or webpage and handling form submission can be handled by using JavaScript for increasing the usability and interaction of the website. XEL Web Design analyses the type of website to be designed and we fit in the required JavaScript to enhance the website developed.
